Updated Deck in Columbus (April 2025)

This project transformed an outdated wood deck into a clean, modern elevated composite deck system designed for durability, safety, and low maintenance. The new layout improves functionality with the addition of a 4’ x 4’ landing at the top of the stairs, creating a more comfortable and accessible transition from the home to the yard.

The new 16’ x 14’ pressure-treated frame was constructed using cement pier footings, 4x6 posts, beams, ledger and band boards, and joists spaced at 16” on center with full blocking and bridging.

The finished deck surface features TimberTech Edge Prime+ composite decking in Dark Cocoa, installed parallel to the house wall for a clean, linear look. Hidden fastening systems, including Concealoc and Cortex fasteners, were used to minimize visible hardware and create a smooth, polished finish. Picture frame detailing adds a refined edge to the overall design.

A 4’ wide staircase with matching composite treads, risers, and fascia provides a durable and cohesive transition to grade. The space is finished with a Westbury Tuscany 36” aluminum railing system in Fine Textured Black, installed throughout all flat areas and along both sides of the stairs, adding both safety and a strong visual contrast against the decking.

The result is a low-maintenance, modern outdoor space that significantly improves both usability and curb appeal while eliminating the upkeep of traditional wood.
