An updated screened porch in Worthington.

See the Project

This project focused on giving an existing screened porch a refined, modern update while preserving the character of the original structure. Rather than a full rebuild, the goal was to enhance both function and appearance through carefully selected upgrades, resulting in a screened porch that feels cleaner, brighter, and far more enjoyable to use.
At the roof level, the existing gutter system was carefully removed and preserved to ensure the updates blended seamlessly with the home. A new extended bronze drip edge was installed beneath the original galvanized roof edge, then integrated directly into the existing gutter before re-hanging. This subtle improvement adds an extra layer of protection from water intrusion while maintaining the home’s original roofline and drainage system.
On the main level, the transformation is immediately noticeable. Outdated balusters, trim, and chair rails were removed to make way for a more streamlined and cohesive design. New cedar trim was installed across both screened walls, bringing warmth and natural texture to the space. Left unstained, the cedar adds an organic, timeless feel that will weather beautifully over time or remain ready for future finishing if desired.
Structurally, new pressure-treated sill plates and top plates were introduced to support the upgraded screening system and rail components. This ensures the porch is not only visually improved, but also reinforced for long-term durability.
The centerpiece of the refresh is the new bronze Screen Eze screening system, paired with charcoal fiberglass fabric. This combination creates a sleek, almost invisible barrier that keeps insects out without blocking airflow or views. The dark screen fabric blends effortlessly into the background, making the surrounding landscape more prominent and giving the porch a lighter, more open feel.
To complete the look, black aluminum rail pickets were installed, replacing the older spindles with a cleaner, more contemporary profile. The contrast between the warm cedar and the crisp black rail elements gives the porch a modern edge while still feeling natural and inviting.
