See the Project

Designed to transform a steep, wooded backyard into a fully functional outdoor living environment, this multi-level deck project creates a seamless connection between the home and its natural surroundings. Rather than fighting the slope, the design embraces it, using elevation changes to carve out distinct spaces for gathering, dining, and relaxing.
The upper deck acts as the main hub, extending directly from the home to create an ideal space for outdoor dining and entertaining. From here, wide stairs guide you down to a lower deck that feels more intimate and secluded.
One of the standout features of this project is the integrated stair lighting. Subtle LED lights are built directly into each step, providing both safety and ambiance after sunset. At night, the entire structure glows softly through the trees, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that feels more like a luxury resort than a typical backyard deck.
The material palette was carefully chosen to balance modern style with timeless appeal. Rich English Walnut decking brings warmth and texture, while black railings and framing give the space a sleek, architectural edge. The dark tones also help the structure blend into the wooded environment, allowing the surrounding greenery to remain the star of the show.
Strategic placement of sleek privacy screens helps block the view beneath the upper deck without making the space feel closed off. This creates a more comfortable, finished feel while still allowing airflow and filtered light to move freely throughout the space.
Overall, this project demonstrates how thoughtful design and high-quality materials can completely redefine how a homeowner uses their outdoor space. What was once an underutilized, difficult landscape is now a layered, functional retreat that invites year-round enjoyment.
