Covered Outdoor Space in Columbus (March, 2026)

This project transforms an existing concrete patio into a functional, covered outdoor living space with a streamlined, modern aesthetic. Designed as a 20' x 20' shed-style roof, the structure provides full coverage while maintaining an open, uncluttered look that complements the home’s exterior.

To properly support the new structure, two openings were cut into the existing concrete to allow for the installation of cement footings beneath the roof support posts. This ensures long-term stability and code-compliant load support.

The roof structure features a wood-framed system topped with standing seam metal roofing in Charcoal Gray, delivering both durability and a sleek, architectural finish. Flashing was installed at the house connection to ensure a watertight seal, while 12" white vinyl overhangs with matching fascia capping create a crisp perimeter on all sides.

Support posts are constructed from pressure-treated lumber and wrapped in Azek white PVC, paired with an LVL beam also wrapped in Azek for a cohesive, low-maintenance finish. The design intentionally avoids knee walls and additional side framing, keeping the space open and visually lightweight.

The ceiling is left natural (unfinished), allowing the structure to maintain a clean, minimal look while still showcasing the framing. White RMC DuraSpan vinyl soffit adds durability and ventilation where needed.

A full electrical package enhances usability, including four wafer lights, a ceiling fan hookup, a flood light, and an outlet for a wall-mounted TV with bracket installation. A 6" continuous K-style gutter system with downspout directs water efficiently into the existing drain tile system.
