Garage Window in London (March 2025)

This project converted a section of an existing residential garage into an indoor-outdoor bar setup by cutting an opening in the concrete block wall and installing an Activwall bi-fold glass pass-through window. When open, the Activwall panel folds up and overhead, fully clearing the opening and connecting the garage interior directly to outside. When closed, it seals the opening with a glazed panel that still lets light into the space. It's a practical solution for a garage bar or entertainment space that needs to function in both open-air and closed configurations depending on the weather.

The bar top is built from TimberTech composite decking material, cantilevered out from the exterior wall to create a pass-through counter that works from both sides — bar stools inside at the interior ledge, and standing room at the exterior counter. The interior bar ledge  gives seated guests a clear view to the backyard. The interior block walls were painted white, giving the interior a clean, finished look that works well as a bar or entertainment space.

Why This Project Works

• The Activewall bi-fold glass panel opens the wall completely when desired, removing any barrier between the garage interior and the exterior space
• The cantilevered composite bar top serves both inside and outside simultaneously, making the pass-through genuinely functional rather than just decorative
• TimberTech composite material on the bar top holds up well to weather exposure on the exterior-facing side without requiring sealing or finishing
• The interior bar ledge aligned with the fixed backyard window gives seated guests an unobstructed view outside even when the Activewall is closed
• The epoxy floor and painted block walls bring the garage interior to a finished standard that suits an entertainment space
