Westerville Deck Renovation

See the Project

This Westerville project focused on strengthening and modernizing an existing elevated deck while preserving the composite decking the homeowners already loved. Rather than starting from scratch, the goal was to reinforce the structure, improve long-term stability, and upgrade the railing system for a safer, more polished finish.
The original composite deck boards remained in place, but the structural components beneath were significantly improved. New pressure-treated 4x6 support posts were installed in concrete footings to provide a stronger foundation and enhanced load support. Laminated 2x10 beams were added to increase structural integrity, ensuring the deck performs reliably for years to come.
To further reinforce the framing system, additional blocking and bridging were installed throughout the structure. Rail post reinforcement blocking was also added to create a solid anchor point for the new railing system. Every framing improvement was completed in compliance with the 2019 Ohio Revised Code of Deck Building Standards, giving the homeowners peace of mind that their deck meets current safety requirements.
The staircase received a detailed refresh as well. Existing composite stair treads were reused, helping maintain continuity with the deck surface while reducing unnecessary material replacement. New composite risers, stair fascia, and deck fascia were installed to give the entire staircase a clean, finished appearance from every angle.
The most visible upgrade comes in the form of new Westbury Tuscany 36" tall powder-coated extruded aluminum railing. Installed across all flat deck areas and along both sides of the staircase, this railing system adds both safety and architectural definition. The sleek black finish creates strong visual contrast against the light siding and composite decking, giving the deck a more modern, elevated look while maintaining open sightlines.
By focusing on structural reinforcement and premium railing installation, this project successfully extended the life of the existing deck while dramatically improving safety and curb appeal. This finished renovation project is an example of how targeted upgrades can deliver lasting performance without a full deck replacement.
