Deck in Hilliard (September 2025)

This backyard deck renovation was designed to completely refresh an aging outdoor space while preserving the strength of the existing structural frame. By replacing the visible deck components and reinforcing the framing where needed, the project delivers a modern, low-maintenance outdoor living area that feels brand new while making efficient use of the original structure.

The new deck surface features TimberTech Terrain+ Series cap stock composite decking in Weathered Oak, installed parallel to the house wall to create clean, consistent lines across the deck surface. The natural-toned Weathered Oak color gives the deck a warm, wood-inspired appearance while delivering the durability and low maintenance of advanced composite materials.

A custom picture-frame border in Espresso surrounds the perimeter of the deck, providing a finished architectural edge that highlights the overall layout. Hidden fastening systems including Concealoc and Cortex fasteners were used throughout the installation, creating a smooth, polished surface free of visible screws.

The staircase was rebuilt using TimberTech stair treads in Weathered Oak paired with Espresso risers and fascia, creating a subtle contrast that adds dimension and visual interest. A durable vinyl apron in Canyon Brown wraps the base of the deck to give the structure a clean, finished look while protecting the framing from exposure.

Safety and style come together with Westbury Tuscany 36-inch powder-coated aluminum railing in Fine Textured Black. Installed along all flat deck areas and down both sides of the staircase, the railing provides secure boundaries while maintaining open backyard views. Fascia-mounted posts allow the railing to sit cleanly along the deck perimeter without interrupting usable deck space.

To enhance functionality, a drink rail was added along the top of the railing sections around the deck’s flat areas. This feature creates a convenient ledge for beverages, small plates, or decorative accents—perfect for entertaining or relaxing outdoors.

A standout feature of this design is the addition of a decorative Hideaway privacy screen in Maui Fine Textured Black. Positioned strategically along one section of the deck, the laser-cut panel provides privacy while allowing light and airflow to pass through. The bold pattern adds a modern design element that elevates the visual character of the space.

The finished result is a beautifully updated outdoor living space that blends modern materials, and functional design elements.
