Grove City

TimberTech, Westbury
Custom deck with built-in seating.

See the Project

This project involved the construction of a new 31x16-foot rear deck on a two-story suburban home, with an additional 6x32-inch grilling area extension off one end.
The decking surface is TimberTech Terrain+ Series cap stock composite in Natural White Oak, installed perpendicular to the house wall using Concealoc hidden fasteners and Cortex plug fasteners. A picture frame border in Natural White Oak runs all open edges of the deck. The fascia, risers, and apron are finished in black using Owens Corning materials, creating a strong two-tone contrast between the warm tan decking surface and the dark perimeter.
Three built-in backless benches are integrated into the deck layout — one corner bench and two straight benches — all finished in Natural White Oak composite to match the decking surface. The benches are mounted on black powder-coated steel pedestals, keeping the look consistent with the railing and apron finish. They define the seating area around the fire pit zone without requiring freestanding furniture along the perimeter.
Westbury VertiCable 36" powder-coated aluminum railing in Fine Textured Black with stainless steel cable balusters runs along the free edge of the deck and down one side of the stairs at the grilling area. The vertical cable infill keeps sightlines open to the backyard while maintaining the palette established by the fascia and apron.
Why This Project Works
- The built-in benches define the seating zone around the fire pit area without requiring additional furniture, keeping the deck surface open and uncluttered
- The two-tone color scheme — Natural White Oak decking against black fascia, risers, and apron — creates a clean, high-contrast exterior elevation
- Westbury VertiCable cable railing maintains open backyard sightlines while staying consistent with the all-black exterior trim palette
- The dedicated grilling extension keeps the cooking area separate from the main entertaining space without requiring a full framing addition
- Owens Corning black fascia and apron provide a durable, low-maintenance perimeter finish that coordinates with the railing system
- TimberTech Terrain+ Series cap stock composite requires no ongoing maintenance and holds color well over time
- The perpendicular decking direction and picture frame border give the large surface a structured, finished appearance
