This 16' x 12' elevated deck was designed to provide a durable, low-maintenance outdoor living area while creating a safe and comfortable transition from the home to the backyard. With 192 square feet of usable space, the layout offers ample room for outdoor seating, grilling, or relaxing while maintaining a clean, streamlined design that complements the home’s exterior.
The project began with the construction of a fully engineered pressure-treated deck frame, built on cement pier footings and supported by sturdy 4x6 posts. Structural beams, ledger and band boards, and joists spaced at 16 inches on center provide the strength needed for long-term performance. Blocking, bridging, stair stringers, and apron bracing were integrated throughout the structure to reinforce stability and durability.
At the top of the staircase, a 4' x 4' landing was incorporated into the design to create a comfortable transition point between the stairs and the main deck surface. This landing improves circulation and safety while providing additional space to move comfortably when entering or exiting the deck.
To protect the home and improve moisture management, the deck was properly flashed at the house wall, helping prevent water intrusion and ensuring the structural connection remains secure over time.
Surrounding the deck and stairs is Westbury Tuscany 36-inch powder-coated aluminum railing in Fine Textured Black. Installed along all flat deck areas and down both sides of the staircase, the railing provides strong safety protection while maintaining an open view of the backyard. The sleek black finish contrasts beautifully with the Sandbar decking color, adding a modern architectural element to the design.
To help keep the space beneath the deck clean and low-maintenance, landscape fabric and a layer of 2–3 inches of gravel were installed under the structure. This ground treatment helps control weeds, improves drainage, and creates a tidy appearance beneath the elevated deck.
The finished result is a clean, functional outdoor space that blends structural strength, modern composite materials, and thoughtful design details—creating a deck built to perform beautifully for years to come.
