Revitalized Deck in Delaware

See the Project

This project revitalizes an elevated deck and screened porch by combining structural upgrades with a full surface transformation. The result is a safer, more durable outdoor space with a clean, updated aesthetic that complements the home’s architecture and surrounding landscape.
The existing structure was reinforced with the addition of two new cement piers, 4x6 pressure-treated posts, and a mid-span beam to properly support the stair system. New stair stringers were installed at 12" on center, significantly improving stability and longevity. The sunken brick paver area at the base of the stairs was reworked to create a more level and functional transition point.
To protect the structure long-term, butyl deck tape was applied to all exposed, sky-facing framing surfaces, while screen fabric was installed over the joists within the screened porch to help prevent insect intrusion below the decking.
The entire deck surface was upgraded using TimberTech Reserve Series composite decking in Driftwood, installed perpendicular to the existing joists for a refreshed visual direction and improved drainage. Hidden fasteners (ConceaLoc/Camo) were used throughout, with Cortex plugs at stairs and borders to maintain a clean, seamless finish. A single picture frame border defines the deck perimeter.
Stairs were rebuilt with matching TimberTech treads, enclosed with white PVC risers and fascia for a crisp contrast. Azek white PVC fascia was also installed along the deck perimeter for a polished, low-maintenance finish.
Railing systems were thoughtfully mixed for both function and style. Westbury VertiCable railing was installed across the main upper deck areas to preserve open sightlines, while Westbury Tuscany C-10 railing was used on the stairs and lower sections for added safety and traditional appeal. A matching 36" gate was installed at the top of the stairs for controlled access.
