Deck in Columbus (October, 2025)

This Columbus project proves that even a modest footprint can deliver major impact. Designed as a 12' x 8' main deck with an additional 4' x 4' landing, this 96-square-foot space was thoughtfully built to provide safe access, comfortable seating, and long-lasting performance while complementing the home’s exterior.

The structure begins with a fully engineered pressure-treated frame supported by cement pier footings and 4x6 posts. Reinforced beams, ledger and band boards, and joists spaced at 16 inches on center create a solid foundation, with blocking and bridging throughout for added strength. Stair stringers and apron bracing were carefully integrated to ensure stability and durability.

The surface is finished with TimberTech Terrain+ Series cap stock composite decking in Dark Oak, installed perpendicular to the home for a clean, tailored look. A single picture-frame border adds a subtle custom detail that elevates the overall appearance. Hidden fastening systems, including Camo and Cortex fasteners, provide a smooth surface free of visible screws.

The staircase features TimberTech stair treads in Dark Oak paired with crisp PVC white risers and fascia, creating contrast and definition. A custom 3-board box step offers a clean transition to grade while reinforcing the design consistency.

One of the standout features of this project is the approximately 16 lineal feet of built-in, 3-board TimberTech backless bench seating. Finished in matching Dark Oak with PVC white fascia and black bench posts, the bench provides practical seating without crowding the deck. It also helps define the perimeter of the space while maintaining openness.

Westbury Tuscany 36" tall powder-coated aluminum railing in Fine Textured Black was installed across all non-bench flat areas and down one side of the stairs. The sleek black railing adds safety and a modern touch without overwhelming the compact layout.

The underside of the deck is finished with RMC vinyl apron in Gray Flannel, delivering a clean, enclosed appearance that enhances curb appeal.

The result is a small-scale deck that feels intentional, durable, and beautifully finished; perfect for relaxing outdoors while maximizing every square foot.
